We are a group of women who feel called to act on what we know and have seen. God has placed within our hearts a love for Africa and her people. Some of us have children from these countries, some sponsor children from these countries but we are all mothers. We are mothers who see a hurt and a need and have a desire to act. Despite being thousands of miles away we hope to make a difference in the places that hold a piece of our hearts.

Ethiopia Letter from Crystal

The following is a letter from one of the women going on the Ethiopia Trip:

Hello family & friends!
I am pleased to share with you some exciting news! In February I will be traveling to Ethiopia! Jesus has been preparing me for this trip for the last 20 years. He has given me a passion for children – for the fatherless. He also placed within my heart a love for other countries and people groups. As a young child my grandma Jackie would have me write letters to missionaries and learn about what they did and who they served. She didn’t realize it – but she was watering the seed placed in my heart.

I know that I could send money, I could send material things – but lately God has been showing me that these basic needs met, are not the only thing these kids need – they need love, someone to love them and show them how important they are. Jesus loves them – he has not forgotten them. He created them, and each child lying on a dirt floor is HIS child. His children are alone, and they are hurting.

Can you imagine not having your mom to comfort you when hurt – or your daddy to cheer you on when you do something well? I look at my children who are so loved and adored & I just can’t imagine if they were left alone with no one. Ethiopia has millions of children living in poverty without a mother or father. I can’t be there to love and hold them all – but I can love and hold a few of them.  I want to be Jesus to these kids.

Our group will be traveling to bring donations to a ministry called Yezelalem Minch. YM was started by a girl who grew up a sponsored child of World Vision. Yezelalem Minch is a community based care & support to orphans & vulnerable children. They offer care to destitute orphans who don’t have an extended family. YM  is a ministry that helps children and families affected by HIV stay together and become productive members of society. They aim to keep children off the street. While there, we will also be purchasing goats and chickens for the families in their community program, so these families can have a start to support themselves and their children.

We will also visit a couple other orphanages, and a trash dump where many children live. One orphanage we will be visiting takes care of children who are HIV positive. I believe the places I will be going is where Jesus would choose to be here on earth.  As a mother, my heart aches for these children. I want to be there loving these children the way Jesus loves them. There is a verse that says Once our eyes are opened we cannot pretend we do not know what to do. God, who weighs our hearts and keeps our souls, knows we know and holds us responsible to act.” Proverbs 24:12. Well this is me acting on what I know. Some people are unable to go, and instead, support those who do go, with prayer and finances. I hope you will remember us in prayer! Thank you for listening and taking the time to hear the latest with me. I have a DVD available to anyone who would like to learn more about the ministry we will be helping with there! Just call or email me and I will send it to you!

Please consider partnering with us financially and prayerfully as we head over to Ethiopia to be the hands and feet of Jesus! We will travel Feb 23 – March 3, 2011 and we have to raise $5,000 more to go. This will cover our flights, transportation, food and the guest home. 45% of the cost of the guest home will go directly to the ministry of Yezelalem Minch. Also, for ever $25 donated, a chicken will be purchased and given to a family in need. After we have raised $5,000 – 200 chickens will be given to 40 families.

I want you to be a part of our group - to be invested in our trip and the lives we will be changing. I will love updating you with pictures and videos from our trip! When I return I will put together a slide show and video compilation of our videos of the trip :) Just so you can get a glimpse of where we will be look at the links below!

Here is a sample of a couple of the places we will be visiting:

This is Yezelalem Minch, its a slideshow of their different areas of how they help children and families, we will be staying here:

AHOPE - an HIV+ orphanage

Korah Dump - for years has been a "colony/community" for lepers and those with HIV, it is located on a trash dump:

Kolfe Orphanage:

If you would pray for me, I would appreciate it ::: (1) I am having anxiety leaving my kids and husband. I worry how my kids will do while I am gone. I often pray that my children will be world changers; I want to be an example to my kids. (2) Please pray that we can raise the funds needed – it’s approaching fast! (3) Also, please pray for safety for us! (4) Each of us are mothers to young children, so please pray that our children handle our absence well.

I am anxious to experience Jesus there and return to tell you about the way he worked through us and in us!
                                      Seeking to build the Kingdom,
                                                            Crystal

Our Trip to Ethiopia

We are in need a people willing to partner with us prayerfully and financially!

Where we will be: Yezelalem Minch is a community based care support to orphans & vulnerable children. They offer care to destitute orphans who don’t have an extended family. The Yezelalem Minch is a ministry that helps children and families affected by HIV in Ethiopia stay together and become productive members of society. They aim to keep children off the street. The founder grew up a sponsored child of World Vision and learned that God has a plan for her life – she realized he was calling her to care for the fatherless. (I can provide a DVD, which is a short documentary on Yezelalem Minch for free for anyone interested).

In addition to Yezelalem Minch we will be visiting :
   *HIV orphanage called AHOPE
   *Kolfe Boys Orphanage
*Korah trash dump (a colony of lepers and those with HIV)

((Here is a sample of a couple of the places we will be visiting))

When & How Much: We plan to travel Feb 23 – March 3, 2011. We need to raise $5,000 for us to go. This will cover flights, food, and housing for the week. 30% of what our housing will cost will go directly towards the church and ministry we are helping.

Prayer Requests:
1. Pray that God brings in the funds! This trip is approaching FAST.
2. Pray that we would seize every opportunity to be Jesus to everyone.
3. Pray for safety
4. Pray that our church families’ hearts would soften and be moved by the photos and videos we will bring back – pray that they will ACT when God reveals to them this need!
5. Pray that we make the maximum impact possible and that we will do all that God has called us to while there.

FOR EVERY $25  donated to our mission trip to Ethiopia in February, a chicken will be purchased for a family who has no means of income or a way to provide for their child. Many families relinquish their children to orphanages because they can’t provide a simple meal. These chickens will provide a way for a family to generate income and help them, help themselves. When we reach our goal of $5,000, we will be purchasing 200 chickens for 40 families in need.

Ethiopia Trip!!!

Three of us will be heading to Ethiopia!!! We will be visiting Yezelalem Minch and being a part of their Saturday program and learning more of what they need from us here in the United States. We hope to go and capture what their struggles there are and get the church here inspired to act and make a difference.

This trip has many purposes. We desire to make a difference over there. We desire to bring some hope to the staff of YM and to the children and families that they serve. We desire to go and love on children who have no one to love on them. We want to love on children who have been told that they are HIV positive. We want them to know that they are not forgotten and that there are many people here who are praying for them.

We could send money. But we hope to go there and capture the reality of what their lives are like. We want to bring them back here and spark a desire within our church to make a difference. We could send money, but some of us feel called to GO. Even if its for the little amount of time it is. We cant love on them, cry with them and hold then if we are sitting over here.

We plan to travel from Feb 23 - March 2, 2011.
It will cost $5,000 for the three of us to go.

Donations are tax deductible!

Please send donations to:

Expanding our donations!

We are expanding beyond shoes to send to Yezelalem Minch. Here is a list of the suggested donations:

*Tennis Shes
*Underwear
*Backpacks
*Blankets
*Crayons
*Pencils

I know that at walmart there are small backpacks on clearance for $3. There are also tennis shoes that are typically $10 but only $3 on clearance. You can find good deals at walmart for things on clearance - lots of cute outfits for kids around $3. And unlike many kids here in the United States, the kids in Ethiopia are thankful for anything they receive, so don't worry if something isn't name brand etc.

If you would like a free dvd on the organization that we are sending donations to - please email Kara at:
kkvassar@yahoo.com

Our first shoe drive!!!

We are asking you to help us with our first "drive" which will be to get as many tennis shoes as possible for these kids who dont have any! If you would like to help, get in touch with us and let us know what you can do! It would be great if we could recruit sunday school classes (children and adult), school classrooms, basketball teams etc and ask each person in the class to bring in a pair of new tennis shoes plus one dollar to help with shipping.

Tennis shoes at walmart are around $10 a pair. On clearance they get down to $3 a pair. Please considering purchasing tennis shoes to contribute to these kids. They can be all sizes.

Please bring along one dollar to help with shipping if possible.

Please email me for more info!
